Since the moment of its inception, in the 1800’s, the McMahon Cooperage
was hailed as being "One of the finest and best equipped industrial
centres in the country". Now, with over 200 years of experience and
expertise this spirit of enterprise carries on throughout the McMahon
branch network and within the still existent Limerick plant.
From here, Silkwood utilise the latest technology and the finest
craftsmen who continue to provide innovative and progressive timber
solutions for our valued customers. This investment, by the McMahon
Group, in the most up-to-date technology and machinery has seen us
become one of the biggest builders'
providers in the country with a
range of quality products and a level of expert service that is truly
unique.
At McMahon’s, we recognised right from the start, that there were three
vital elements required when working with wood to form wooden mouldings
or finished and machined-styled products.
The first vital element is the raw material. Our attitude is very
simple; if we are not happy with the quality of the timber before it
goes into the machining we reject it.
Which is why we go to enormous lengths and travel the world to source
the best quality Redwoods and Whitewoods before any machining is done.
Next, we ensure that we have the most professional, experienced and
dedicated machine operators. Finally, when we have obtained timber of
the finest quality and have our highly skilled machine operators in
place, the remaining vital element we include is our first class
machinery. Working in collaboration with our German machinery
manufacturers, we constantly strive to improve machining techniques so
that McMahon’s can provide our customers with only the finest machined
timber.
Silkwood stands as an example of how McMahon's successfully combine our
traditional skills with our modern capabilities. Our product range
includes Skirting, Architraves, SilkDeck (decking product), Door Frames,
Dado Rail, Picture Rail, Scotia, Flooring, Tongue and Groove Sheeting
and Stair Parts, plus a whole range of Planed-All-Over products. We have
the ability to work to a unique design or to use a specific design such
as a copy of a Victorian or Georgian mould. This is a service that has
been successfully incorporated into both residential and commercial
restoration projects. You will also find a large stock of our machined
Redwood and Whitewood mouldings in stock at all times.
