We, at McMahon's, go to great lengths to source the
very best timber from around the world. For the past 170 years we have
travelled to North and South America, Canada, France, Spain, Germany,
Africa, Asia, Scandinavia, Russia and the Baltic States to bring you
truly fine timber such as White Deal, Southern Yellow Pine, Honduras
Pitch Pine, Scandinavian Red Deal, Western Red Cedar, Iroko, Sapele,
Oak, Cherry, Ash and Beech.
We stock many other Hardwoods and Softwoods and a complete range is
available at our branches.
European
Whitewood
Available in all branches of the McMahon network. We import this product
from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Russia, Latvia and Estonia.
Strength-graded Whitewood is generally used for construction purposes.
The Whitewood from Finland and Russia is ideal for machining and most of
our machined products such as flooring, skirting boards and window
boards, are made from this timber.
European
Redwood
All of our Redwood comes from Finland where the best quality Redwood is
available. It is used mainly in joinery applications (window, door and
furniture manufacturing sold as "Pine Products"). McMahonıs also machine
imported Redwood into mouldings, flooring and skirting, reflecting itsı
growing popularity.
Western Red Cedar
Imported from Canada, it is increasingly popular with architects and
specifiers for new building projects. It is durable and does not need to
be treated due to itsı natural resistance to weather. For this reason it
is suitable for outside cladding, decking, sheeting and garden
furniture.
Southern Yellow Pinelow Pine
Originating from the southern part of the USA it has long traditional
usage here in Ireland. With excellent machining qualities it is widely
used for counter tops, bar furniture and ceilings and has high strength
values.
American/Canadian
Hardwoods
Species available: Red Oak, White Oak, Cherry, Ash and Maple. All of these
species originate in the Appalachian region of the USA, except Maple,
which is further North and into Canada. They are used by joinery and
manufacturing trades for furniture, coffins, handles, flooring, skirting
and kitchens. The best examples can be seen in hotels, hospitals and
public offices.
German
& Eastern European Hardwoods
We import European Beech which is very popular with manufacturers and
joiners in the manufacture of bedroom and kitchen furniture due to its
high strength values. It is also available steamed which produces a very
attractive pink hue.
West
African Hardwoods
The species available are Iroko, Sapele, Utilie, Edinam, Framire and
Obeche. Iroko is traditionally used in the windows and doors of most
new houses. Of the mahogany family we stock Sapele, Utilie and Edinam.
Sapele is becoming increasingly popular for use in many joinery
applications due to its consistency of colour and affordable price.
