While we spend a lot of time thinking and planning how our homes look,
we often omit to take the important issue of how our homes work into
consideration. Properly insulated homes will not only be more pleasant
to live in, but will save you money and save the environment from
unnecessary fuel waste. Once considered an optional extra there are now
strict Government regulations, regarding insulation for new
developments, that
were
applied
to all new houses from 2003.
The revised Technical Guidance Document ŒL, will be implemented in
residential buildings from 1st January 2003. These improved thermal
performance and insulation standards will deliver reduced heating costs
of space and water for occupants of houses constructed to the new
standards (23-33% depending on the size of dwelling).
The improved thermal performance within the building will reduce gas
emissions within the environment; the new
regulations are projected to reduce C02 emissions by 300,000 tonnes, per
annum, by the year 2012.

The areas of a building to insulate include the floors, the walls,
between floors, and the attic area. Draught proofing should be fitted to
windows and doors and all hot water cylinders should be fitted with
lagging jackets.
At McMahon’s you will find everything you need to properly insulate your
home.
McMahon’s is an agent for the following insulation manufacturers:
Aeroboard, Hytherm, Kingspan, Moy Isover, Knauf Alcopor.
We can also advise the public on the new regulations and suggest
possible requirements for their projects.
